The Pakistan Air Force said it scrambled two fighter jets after two "high-speed" Indian planes crossed the border over its eastern province of Punjab at about 10:40 am (0540 GMT).
The planes were reportedly five to seven miles inside Pakistan.
As soon as the violation occurred, the air traffic controller signaled the planes for a sign explaining the move. When no signal was sent back, the air traffic controller informed Pakistan Air Force (PAF).
While PAF was preparing to respond, the Indian planes had left Pakistani airspace two minutes later.
The Foreign Ministry conveyed serious concern to the Indian High Commission over the incident, Radio Pakistan reported.
India was told that Pakistan considers the airspace violation as a contravention of the 1991 bilateral agreement on Prevention of Airspace Violations.
India accused Pakistan last week of fomenting militancy in the Indian state of Punjab and killing a soldier in cross-border firing.
Pakistan rejected both allegations.

To cut short, I am not a writer or editor and only quite reader of newspaper columns but after reading above contents, I am speech less and just want to write few lines……that I really want to share with all concern authorities: “There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.” Anyhow, we should work together for improvement of Pakistan and should not be the part of destruction of our holy region,PAKISTAN.

Pakistanis are making a mountain of a molehill as Pakistan must have committed atleast a million cross-border violations against India for the past six decades but got away without a scratch. However, India has so far restrained itself of committing any such violation against Pakistan and abides by the international norms and obligations. The present incident appears to be an error in judgement on part of the pilots and an inquiry must have been ordered by the concerned authorities.

This IAF incursion is a reminder of the very real state-level threat Pakistan has on her eastern border from an enemy five times its size. We are all for good relations with India but we should also bear in mind this inconvenient truth because intentions can change in a few days but capabilities take decades to build. People who are advocating cuts to defense infrastructure are being gullible. Constantly learning from our mistakes and plugging any holes is an ongoing process that seldom achieves perfection.

i dont know why are you guys making an issue out of it.. i am a pilot and its not an unusual thing to enter the airspace of the other country by mistake while flying. This has happened many times with us because sometimes it becomes difficult for pilot to judge the border and once we get to know and get the warning we take a turn which takes atleast 3 minutes for a speedy jet.

@ahmad: This has nothing to do with BVR. Pakistan has F-16s with AIM-120 BVRAAMs that can easily respond to the BVR threat of the IAF.
The two minute stay in the Pakistani airspace is most likely inadvertent and secondly, PAF's air defence response is probably in the vicinity of 5-10 minutes unless we have aircraft on Air Defence Alert (ADA) duties with pilots sitting in the cockpits with their aircraft ready to go on the runways. This is usually not the norm during peacetime.
For those believing that this is an unforgivable sin on the part of the PAF, you need to realize that unless Pakistan has aircraft and AWACS flying 24/7, which is a very costly endeavor, such things can happen.
Perhaps the IAF was trying to probe the reaction times of the PAF if this is not an inadvertent mistake, but the PAF will keep an eye on such things in the future given this incident has happened.
Reading the comments here makes it evident that the summer vacation in schools has started and kids have no homework to do.

The planes mentioned in your Zee News link were MIG 21's or the 'flying coffins' of the Indian Air Force. They were lucky to return to base: according to India Today 482 MIGs have crashed since 1972 giving the IAF the distinction of the airforce with the worst accident record in the world:

The minimum time to scramble workld wide is 15 minutes, if the planes are on alert. I do not think Pakistan is mantaining a QRA for eastren border. Pilots have nothing to do with it. So pipe down ppl.
The actual blame lies with PAF Command Control and Servalence folks as they should have responded when the indian planes were in ADIZ.

Do not try to explain the cause of weak defencs or relatavise it!! This is not a place for training! Are you asking a question how one defends the border violations or telling us why Pakistan military is unable to dfend its borders. It is not a secret that Inia is about ready to implode from within, first the revolt from the Maosts and now from th Sikh community separation attempts from India. Indian air force simply wanted to warn theNew Pakistan leadership to stay away from the border. PAF could likewise send their jets for two minutes to entry the Indian air space along the Kashmir border or Punjab border or even Rajisthan border and es the response?
This is not to ignore that India is nuclear armed and two minutes are just about enough to clean up the Punjab area occupied by sikhs and muslim Punjabis!!

The speed of SU27 is 2400 km /H 2 Min = 80 KM Distance covered by the plane, must be Lahore atc had picked the signal which has range of max 20 kms .. Something is seriously misssing in news report.
If this mistake by Indian fighters was done into Chinese territory, they would have banged India.

Testing of borders defence are the right words! Pakistan military has failed an failed miserably, not by automatic firing of the missile but atleast the acknowledgemnt that Pakistan air spac has been entered. And how does one know this when it is being constantly voilated by 24 hours drone flights.

no airforce in the world can repsond to air violation lasting just 2 min until you are in a state of war and there are standing Combat Air Patrols along the border.
even if scramble orders were given it would take another 5 min to reach the place of violation.
no radar operator can forecast the intentions of a fighter pilots across the border who is flying 5nm from border. fighters normaly travel at 15km/min. if supersonic, you can well imagine the speed and reaction time. rest is your calculation.
PAF BVR capability with AMRAAM c is much better than IAF. AMRAAM is a war tested BVR. so PAF can respond better to IAF in such scenarios.
so the drawing/bed room commentators should do some research rather than talking rubbish.

It was the Civil ATC who informed PAF? What happened to PAF's/Army's ground radars which are supposed to be stationed near our Borders. Also, there are no SAM batteries? Indian are so copy cats, they steal our songs, and, now they copied color scheme/design on there SU-30's from our JF-17's, here they goofed. Instead of orange they painted RED.

If they really stayed inside Pakistan for TWO minutes, it says a lot about Pakistani Air Force's preparedness. Under the rules both the airforces are supposed to maintain a 25 mile no fly zone from the international border. The Pakistani ATC would have started tracking them well within the Indian air space would have alerted the PAF once the Indian Aircraft are past the 25 mile zone. Inspite of this if the PAF could not scramble their fighters (let alone intercept) it shows the PAF was sleeping. May be the Saudis are not supplying fuel as PAF is behind payments?

It is called testing the border defenses, instead of PAF getting ready to response, they should have fired missiles at them, hope Pakistan has deployed missile defense systems on their international borders, right? It seems defense of Pakistani borders is on the back burner for a long time while the defense forces are busy building housing projects and acquiring housing plots in posh areas of all cities. Forget about the minute intrusion in our space because Pakistanis could do the same to India any time but most shameful and incompetent reaction was witnessed when SALALA check post of Pakistan on Afghan border was attacked for more than 2 hours and no body reacted to that attack.Pakistanis should have fired the head of Army, air force and the prime minister, they were negligent in their jobs which almost borders on criminality. During the exercise, the RAF Air Chief Marshal Glenn Torpy was given permission by the IAF to fly the MKI. The RAF's Air Vice Marshal Christopher Harper praised the MKI's dogfight ability, calling it "absolutely masterful and unbeatable"

Such violations occur frequently from the US in North Western Pakistan but I don't see that many comments against them. Why worrying over Indian entry into Pakistani side? People should thank God that they returned without inflicting any damage.

It was more likely a move by IAF to check readiness of Pakistani defence and PAF. Air-crafts possess GPS, so it can't be accidental these days. Surveillance systems can check the speed and direction of the enemy planes before they cross the border. So they can take necessary action in least possible time.

Relax guys, its not uncommon for fighter aircrafts. Probably a genuine mistake from our across the border buddies.
BUT people saying that it takes time for PAF to get ready and 2 minutes are not enough. Sorry doesn't work like this. All airforces maintain operational readiness all the times. And some aircraft are almost always in the air over sensitive areas. 2 minutes are way too much.
According to a PAF Spokesperson: PAF DID scramble its alert jets, which is why they left.
Where was the Air force and army when US planes entered deep into our territory and carried out a two hour operation in Abottabad.

My understanding is that these minor infringements do happen on both sides...........and like this one, are handled with maturity.

I almost never comment on any article owing to the millions of trolls, BUT seriously everyone needs to relax! First of all it was most likely an accidental violation, if not it might just have been a move to see our readiness. Secondly they were there for 2 minutes! It probably takes over 2 minutes to climb into a plane! and you expect them to be in the air "circling" Indian jets in that time. Common sense is dead!

To be fair. Two minutes is not long enough for the PAF to respond. In order to challenge momentary intrusions PAF will have to maintain a CAP in the air all the time, as was the case when the Indians had threatened surgical strikes.

the indian fighters are Su-27's capable of firing BVM missiles to two targets 90km away. Pakistani fighters have capability to fire 20km away on single target. Latest JF thunder have ability of BVM in future. So the response would end in disaster only.

PAF as per their tradition failed to respond. In 1997 Indian MIGs-29R enterted pakistani territory from Sulemanki and successfully made exit from muzaffarabad. Pakistani Air Defence kept calculating what to do. This speaks the operational preparedness of PAF. They need to improve.
Indian planes must have taken pictures of any possible sensitive installation in the area from air.
Comeon guys, give it a rest, what are you expecting to happen within 2 minutes? getting jets in the air takes time. Pilots have to get to their planes, start it up, routine checks and then take off, reach the place. you expect all of this to be done within 2 mins? Stop nonconstructive criticism!
They should have been shot down. The indians shot down an unarmed pakistan navy plane in 1999. Refer to atlantique incident.

these kind of violations are deliberate and are means of checking response times. Unfortunately, we failed the test.

I don't know which SOPs are being followed by the Surveillance People there, otherwise the speed & direction of the planes within their border can tell us in advance whether they will cross the border or not and there are sufficient time to counter/tackle them if they cross the border.

When Pakistan ex-army general could fly into India's territory on a helicopter and stay there over night then what is wrong if Indian plane flies into Pakistani territory.

Don't be afraid of Indian planes like American Drones...It's most likely an "Stray" event by mistake. India don't have military drones as America nor the political will to take on Pakistan. Peace is all we want in Pakistan and trade for mutual benefit.

You are getting bent out of shape when a plane that mistakenly entered turned back within 2 minutes. On he other hand, the Salala check post for bombed for 2 hours without any response from your airforce. You never held your defense forces accountable then did you?
CAA which controls air traffic control over the country is no longer part of the defence ministry, reduced intercommunication and diverging end goals. Its the responsibility of the cabinet division now. They did it so should have prepared for these eventualities.
While PAF was preparing to respond, the Indian planes had left.

Too slow to respond the PAF, should have acted in self defence and shot down the planes when the signal was not responded. Which would have been the standard procedure to do.
