Tennis: Aqeel, Yasir through to semis

Top seeds cruise into semi-finals of the 28th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships 2013.

Top-seeds Aqeel Khan, Yasir Khan and Muhammad Abid cruised into the semi-finals of the 28th Federal Cup National Ranking Tennis Championships 2013 men’s singles event underway in Islamabad.


Aqeel overcame younger brother and fifth-seed Jalil 6-4, 6-4, while second-seeded Yasir outclassed Usman Rafiq 6-2, 6-2. Ahmed Chaudhry also booked his place in the last-four with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Usman Ijaz whereas Abid brushed aside Shahzad Khan 6-3, 6-3. In the boys’ under-18 singles event, Mudassar Murtaza qualified for the semis after beating Hamza bin Asif 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. Nofil Kaleem defeated Asif 7-5, 6-3 and Arham Atique outplayed Kashanul Haq 6-2, 6-0 to complete the semi-final line-up.
