Canal swimming: Two children drown

Rescue officials said a 15-year-old boy drowned in the Sadiq Branch Canal while swimming with some friends.

Two children drowned in the canal in Rahim Yar Khan on Sunday. Rescue officials said a 15-year-old boy drowned in the Sadiq Branch Canal while swimming with some friends.


The body was recovered 12 hours later near the 37P Canal. Rescue officials said Ali Haider, a resident of Basti Khair Muhammad Laar, had gone to the canal for a picnic with some friends. They said while swimming near the Dari Sanghi Bridge, his friends said, he was taken towards the deep side and disappeared. His friends said they tried to look for him, but failed. They then called professional help. The body was recovered after 12 hours near Chak 37P Canal.

In another incident, a four-year-old boy drowned in the canal near Chak 18-P. Rescue officials said the boy, Imran, had also gone for a picnic. The body has yet to be recovered.
