Police recruitments : PHC issues notice to provincial IGP

The court had ordered the IGP to hire from the quota allowed to the sons of martyred officers.

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Friday issued a notice against Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) inspector general police (IGP) for failing to comply with court orders.

Earlier, the court had ordered the IGP to fill vacant police department seats by recruiting from the quota allotted to the sons of martyred officers. However, the department failed to do so, leading Mufti Noorul Amin and others to file a contempt petition at the PHC.

Aminur Rehman and Mufti Noorul Basar, counsels for the petitioners, argued before a PHC division bench comprising Justice Mian Fasihul Mulk and Justice Musarrat Hilali. They claimed petitioners were not recruited despite being sons of martyred police department employees.

The bench later served the K-P IGP with a notice seeking his reply on the matter.

Meanwhile, the court accepted the bail request of Salman Gandapur, an alleged murderer.

Gandapur was arrested by Tatara police for allegedly killing Shaheryar on March 20, when the latter refused to give Gandapur his car. Shaheryar’s body was later dumped in Hayatabad, within the jurisdiction of Tatara police station.

Lower courts refused Gandapur’s bail application, but PHC Chief Justice Dost Muhammad Khan accepted the bail request.

In another case, the court also accepted the bail request of Muhammad Rehman, who was co-accused of allegedly kidnapping a minor and resident of Buner, Fazlullah, on February 6, 2011. Rehman is also accused of demanding US$10 million as ransom for Fazlullah’s release.
