The Pakistan High Commission for Pakistan in New Delhi informed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that currently there are 469 Pakistani prisoners are languishing in Indian Jails which include 164 fishermen and 305 civil prisoners.
According to documents available with the APP, the High Commission in its report informed that out of all the prisoners, 197 have not been provided consular access by India despite several requests.
According to the May 2008 agreement, consular access has to be provided within 90 days of arrest of either country's prisoners. But the agreement was not followed by the Indian side, claimed the documents.
As many as 30 Pakistani prisoners have completed their sentence and their national status as Pakistani has been confirmed. The Indians, however, have not repatriated them, the documents added. A ministry official said that the Pakistan mission in New Delhi was in contact with Indian authorities for the early release of these prisoners.
To a question he said that the issue of consular access has been raised with India as per the agreement.

@Tabdeeli AK-47 & Lot of RDX (Not from all of them but from many of them)
@Tabdeeli: Buddy there are people on both sides. Pakistan too has a lot of such Indian prisoners. I don't support tot for tat. Not at all. But both sides need to work on resolving issues rlated o people that may have innocently crossed over - expeditiously. You are making it sound as though India alone is doing this and that is clearly not the case.
release them indians. what do you get from imprisoning innocent people
@Syed A. Mateen: For a change I agree with you. These issues should be resolved asap. Poor fishermen or villagers that stray from one side to another are not people who should bear the brunt of the 2 nation's history
This should be the first point on the agenda of PML(N) government if Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister of Pakistan is going on a official visit to India to meet Indian Prime Minister Mr. Manmohan Singh any time in near future.
The other matters with India are lying pending for the last 65 years and only God knows when Pakistan and India would be able to resolve them.
At least we can get our Pakistani National free from the Indian jails without any further delay.
My request to the GoP is that Pakistanis involved in the petty matters should be freed forthwith, so that they should spend Ramadhan and Eid in Pakistan.
