Corporate governance rules for NGOs discussed

SECP desires to develop a regime that will enhance credibility of NGOs.

LAHORE: Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan Executive Director Nazir Ahmed Shaheen has expressed the desire to develop a regulatory regime that will support corporate NGOs in enhancing their credibility and public trust and ensure transparency, accountability and good governance.

He was speaking at a roundtable conference on the draft Licensing and Corporate Governance Regulations for Associations Not-for-Profit. The conference was organised by the SECP in collaboration with the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Pakistan to seek feedback and suggestions from the stakeholders.

Active participation and feedback of the participants would help in finalising proposed regulations and betterment of NGOs in Pakistan, Shaheen said.

Held at the Expo Centre Lahore, the roundtable drew a good turnout, including representatives of corporate NGOs, accountants, lawyers and consultants, says an SECP press release.

The participants discussed the efforts made to develop better regulatory environment and address issues confronting the regulation of NGOs.
