KARACHI: The All Pakistan Organization of Small Traders and Cottage Industries (APOSTCI), on Tuesday, demanded of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) to order an audit of the accounts of the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) through reliable auditors before allowing tariff hike.

APOSTCI Karachi chapter President Mehmood Hamid welcomed the decision to open a Nepra office in Karachi and said drastic reforms were overdue in the electricity sector. He said Karachi faces immense power shortages despite contributing heavily to the government’s revenue. He said prolonged load-shedding, extra billing and meter-tampering have baffled the electricity consumers of Karachi.

He informed members that copper electricity supply cables in Karachi were being replaced with cheap silver cables which result in improper electricity supply, huge fluctuations and losses.
