LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) leader Shahbaz Sharif filed his nominations papers for the post of chief minister Punjab, Express News reported on Tuesday.

The parliamentary committee of PML-N formally nominated Shahbaz for the position on June 3.

Shahbaz was nominated as the province’s chief minister for the third time.

Given the PML-N’s overwhelming majority in the Punjab assembly, it’s a sure bet that he will once again be CM. This will be the third time he has held this post, the first being from 1997 to 1999 and the second from 2008 to 2013.

As the younger brother of PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz was thought to be an important driving force behind party affairs and in 2013, he was thought to have “taken over the party completely” according to some PML-N sources.

Moreover, party officials say that Nawaz was of the opinion that Shahbaz was one candidate who could unite not only the party but also newly elected MPAs from across the province.

I, as a Karachiite, welcome Shahbaz Sharif sahib for another term as CM. This time his party's intentions look good for Karachi and if they follow through with their plans of Metro Bus or Karachi Circular Railway, we Karachiites would be very grateful.

Secondly if his government at center can somehow ensure free & fair local bodies elections in Sindh with a Local Government in place in Karachi (like the one under Mustafa Kamal) we will respect his party forever. After all, development should not just be in Lahore & Multan but also Karachi & Hyderabad and we know Sindh Govt (under PPP) is not capable of delivering.

Thank you & best of luck!
