Visit to mianwali jail: CJ frees prisoners unable to pay Diyat

Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry ordered to release prisoners confined for non-payment of "Diyat."

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry Sunday visited the Central Jail Mianwali and ordered to immediately release five prisoners confined for non-payment of “Diyat” amount of just Rs109,800. Diyat is a payment to legal heirs of the person who was killed by the accused. The amount was paid by the jail authorities and the prisoners were released. The Chief Justice also ordered the release of other six prisoners within a week who were confined in jail due to non-payment of Diyat amount Rs1,394,315. The chief secretary of Punjab assured to pay the amount for the release of six prisoners within a week without fail. Justice Chaudhry issued various directives after hearing grievances of prisoners.

The chief justice of pakistan interest all around the country on diversified issues of socio economic justice is welcoming. To provide swift justice spontanously on location on logical matter is very much islamic and prudential. The more easier and unpresseried judicial system is the need of time.
