The opening session of the 16th Punjab Assembly was presided over by incumbent Speaker Rana Iqbal Khan, who also administered the oath of office to the newly elected members.
“I hope you fulfill the expectations of the people who have brought you here. My best is with you,” said Rana Iqbal to the members after administering the oath.
The chief minister will be sworn in at the Governor House on June 6.
Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz has a large majority in the new assembly, having won 214 of the 293 seats to which members are elected directly.
The party has nominated Shahbaz Sharif to be chief minister of the province again. PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah is also expected to reprise his role of the last five years as minister for law and parliamentary affairs.

@Muhammad Akram: Measles spread because Mian Sahib was busy fighting a far more dangerous disease. A disease which wears Gucci glasses, eats burger and drinks Pepsi. Now the danger is over, he will spend all his days and nights fighting Measles and other diseases. There is only one restless soul in Punjab and luckily he is our Chief Minister.
Indian Christian Association, with their representatives S. P. Singha, C.E. Gibbon e Fazal Ilahi, voted in favour of Muslim League after an agreement with the Founder of the National Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Muslim votes of Punjab were divided in fifty fifty for the Indian Congress and for the Muslim League. The three votes of christians gave Punjab to Pakistan. S. P. Singha, a christian, was elected first Speaker of the Parliament of Punjab. We hope such beautiful traditions can be respected and repeated considering the vote of the co-founders of Pakistan and not treated as religious minorities of the country.
