FAISALABAD:

An anti measles campaign would be launched in the district from June 24, Executive District Officer (Health) Abdur Rauf said on Friday. He was chairing a meeting to review arrangements for control of the measles epidemic.

In the 11-day drive, he said, at least 2.5 million children under 10 years of age would be given vaccine injections.

He said 867 teams had been formed for the campaign with three teams to work in each union council. These teams would remain active from June 24 to June 30 and give injections to children at their homes. A separate drive to immunise children at schools and to create awareness would be carried during July1 and July 4.

Talking about the number of children who have died from measles in the district, the EDO said that there had been 12 deaths in the Faisalabad district since January 1. He said some newspaper and television reports had been reporting a bigger number of deaths, which, he said, was not true.
