The police and municipal authorities were put on the spot on Thursday as the Sindh High Court warned them of being penalised with fine over failure to remove illegal encroachments from different parts of city.
Rana Faizul Hasan of the United Human Rights Commission of Pakistan had taken the municipal and police authorities to the court for failing to clear Saddar town of illegal encroachments. “The footpaths and roads have been encroached upon, disrupting the smooth flow of traffic at main roads and creating miseries for commuters,” he stated.
On Thursday, the court was informed that while orders were passed, the encroachments still exist on arteries in different areas.
Headed by Justice Maqbool Baqar, the bench expressed displeasure over inaction by the authorities concerned. Giving more time, the bench warned of imposing fine on those responsible if the orders were not followed.
