Agha Siraj Durrani elected Sindh Assembly speaker

PML-N leader Irfanullah Marwat and MQM leader Khwaja Azharul Hasan were among the nominees for the speaker.

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Agha Siraj Durrani was elected as the speaker of the Sindh Assembly on Thursday, Express News reported. He will be the 16th speaker of the provincial assembly.

Durrani secured 87 out of a possible 155 votes. He took oath under the supervision of the outgoing speaker Nisar Khoro.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Khawaja Azharul Hasan secured 48 votes while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Irfanullah Marwat secured 18 votes.

The Sindh Assembly session commenced with prayers for the deceased party workers, who lost their lives in target killing, followed by the announcement of the panel of chairman by Nisar Khoro and the nominees for the speaker slot.
