LAHORE: The Punjab government on Tuesday dissolved all task forces as part of its austerity measures and also decided to take back the official vehicles which were provided as perks and privileges to their members.

A month back, the government had suspended six task forces because they had become a burden on public finances.

The provincial government had suspended all development funds in order to save money for flood victims. However, later it released about 90 per cent of the amount, allocating just over 10 per cent for flood relief.

The government has also closed the Sasti Roti project and has diverted Rs5 billion towards flood relief. It has also issued dissolution orders after discovering that the chairman of the Sasti Roti Scheme Task Force was using official vehicles despite suspension of the project.

But closing down the sasti roti scheme may not be a good idea as the roti price will now definitely rise and common man may suffer. There must be an alternate solution to the roti scheme.

An educational Task Force member once thoughtfully remarked that as part of a solid team he was trying to create a student centered educational system which I suppose would be more effective than a kangaroo centered one, no?
