Govinda is a true dancing star: Riteish Deshmukh

Actor aspires to dance like Govinda.

MUMBAI: Over the years, Bollywood has produced amazing dancers who have their own unique style. The film industry’s greatest dancing superstars include the likes of Madhuri Dixit, Hrithik Roshan and Govinda.

Actor-producer Riteish Deshmukh particularly marvels at Govinda’s dancing skills and says that he looks up to him as an inspiration.

Riteish, currently seen as one of the judges on the dance reality show India’s Dancing Superstar (IDS), minces no words in praising Govinda and calls him a true superstar.

“Sometimes what happens is that you only watch a performer and when I see Govinda, it is like I am looking at him as an inspiration,” Riteish said on the sets of IDS, where Govinda was also present.

Riteish is judging the show with choreographers Geeta Kapur and Ashley Lobo.

Govinda, 49, who made his debut with 1986 film Ilzaam, not only mesmerised everyone with his acting and comic skills, but also carved a niche for himself with his unique and personal style of dancing. Some of his hit songs are Maine Toh Raste Se Ja Raha Tha, Meri Pant Bhi Sexy and Ankhiyon Se Goli Mare.

“Since the day he has come into films, he has inspired many generations. Everybody desires to dance like him. Everyone tries to dance like him, but he has his own manner and has made that manner his style,” said Riteish.

He further added that Govinda’s style of dancing is followed by “other actors and the whole country”. “That’s why he is a superstar and will always be one,” he said.

On the sets of IDS, Govinda showed his dance moves and impressed so much so that besides Riteish, Geeta and Ashley gave him a standing ovation.

Riteish said: “Not only me, in fact, everybody sitting here will always give him a standing ovation. He dances by heart. He is just extraordinary.”
