Punjab Assembly: MPAs-elect to be sworn in on June 1

The assembly speaker and deputy speaker are to be elected on June 3 and the leader of the house on June 5.

LAHORE: Governor Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood has summoned the first session of the 16th Punjab Assembly at 10am on June 1. Incumbent Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Iqbal Khan will preside over the session and administer the oath of office to the newly elected members. The assembly speaker and deputy speaker are to be elected on June 3 and the leader of the house on June 5. The chief minister will be sworn in at Governor’s House on June 6. The PML-N has a large majority in the new assembly, having won 214 of the 293 seats to which members are elected directly, and has nominated Shahbaz Sharif to again be chief minister. Rana Sanaullah is also expected to reprise his role of the last five years as minister for law and parliamentary affairs.
