Man sentenced to 25 years in prison for killing his wife

He divorced her in 2007 and murdered her later that year.

KARACHI: A man who pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing his estranged wife has been sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Jalaluddin Soomro, an additional district and sessions judge in district South, awarded on Monday life imprisonment to Abdul Farhan after the prosecution successfully made a case against him. The verdict was announced after witnesses made statements and both sides presented their final arguments.

Farhan was charged with killing his estranged wife, Amara, who was living with her two children after he divorced her. Amara was stabbed to death on March 3, 2007, the same year the couple got divorced. Farhan dumped her body in an abandoned truck parked in Saba Commercial area in Defence.



The truck owner informed the police about the body and a case, No. 284/07, under section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code was lodged at the Darakshan police station on behalf of the state. After a couple of weeks, the police managed to arrest Farhan and seized the weapon used in the crime. The prosecution successfully established the case through circumstantial and medical evidence.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs0.2 million on Farhan. This amount will be handed over to the children and if Farhan does not pay up, he will have to spend six more months in prison. The accused was remanded to jail custody to serve the sentence.
