More than 26,000 people from around the world were asked to rate 16 countries on whether their global influence was "mainly positive" or "mainly negative".

The poll was conducted for the BBC by GlobeScan and PIPA, and quizzed randomly selected people in 25 countries.

Germany is the most popular country in the world despite well-publicised protests against its insistence on austerity measures within the European Union.
Some 59% of those polled rated Germany as having a positive influence, while at the other end of the spectrum, Iran came last with only 15% looking upon it favourably.
Even in Spain, which is suffering from stringent austerity measures due to a German-led financial rescue package, 68% said they felt Germany had "a mainly positive influence in the world".
Respondents in Greece, which has seen anti-German protests depicting Chancellor Angela Merkel as a Nazi for her insistence on fiscal belt-tightening, gave it the worst rating with 52% saying it was a bad influence.
Germany displaced Japan at the top of the table, with the Asian giant's popularity falling from 58% last year to 51%.
Canada and Britain scored second and third, both with 55 % positive ratings.

This is one of the most retarded surveys ever conducted on a 'worldwide' scale. Only 26,299 people were interviewed, and that too only from 25 countries? Even then, a major influence on the surveys is the public opinion of rival countries which had a major affect on how the "world" views a country. For example, the people of Pakistan & India have voted against each other to a large extent. Another fact is that the survey compared the results of two years to come to its "conclusion". HOWEVER, while doing so, there's no evidence the very same people took part in the surveys in both the years. One person's opinion with regards to a country can differ significantly with that of another. So unless the firms conducting the research survey the SAME people whom they surveyed last year, they cannot say the "views" towards a country has changed positively or negatively compared to last year.

I do not think Pakistanis need to worry. The survey was carried out by the BBC, and I think that says it all. One would have to be simple minded to believe a UK Government controlled media outlet. Even if the results are partially correct, which I doubt, it should be remembered that Western Governments have been conducting anti-Islamic propaganda for many years. Also, I would have thought the UK was the most disliked country on the planet, but it came third in popularity. When I initially read the article I checked to make sure it was not the 1st of April.

There is so much media propaganda against Iran. There is no lawlessness in Iran and things could really get better for them if it was not so many restrictions on it. As for Pakistan, it does not surprise me.
The survey may be biased, the sample size may be small, the results may be upsetting. But any Pakistani who has interacted with others around the world will not be surprised by what they read here. We need to work on both our external marketing, but more importantly, our internal product. The biggest issue is law and order and lack of tolerance towards divergent opinions and lifestyles. We as individuals need to become better ambassadors of our country while holding our government responsible for the issues that make Pakistan unpopular both from the eyes of foreigners and from the experiences of those living here.
Well sometimes criticism can do wonders and if Pakistanis will learn Why they are the least popular and criticized and will learn from this and will work harder than ever then everything can change. We need to step up our Research and Development Projects and also we should be more tolerant in terms of Religion then i am telling you that we will come onto the top. We as nation are treated as terrorist and miscreants, while we as a nation think we are not.
Here in Pakistan, whole Pakistan think Karachi is terrorist city and miscreant, rest of Pakistan is heaven.

Dear whoever carried out this comparison - There are over 190 countries in the world. In this survey Pakistan is being compared to 21 (predominantly developed) other countries. Where else you'd expect Pakistan to end up?
Out of 206 odd coutries, Pakistan find its place in the selected 16 countries, so there is importance of Pakistan nonetheless. Now whats the criteria to judge a country is not shared. So i dont consider it a genuine survey least.

it is so disheartening that we are the second most unpopular state in the world... but on the bright side we are improving....india on the other hand has seen a drastic down fall, we on the other hand should improve Pakistan's image by encouraging our tourism industry because we've got a lot of potential.... according to lonely planet (world's largest touring website) Pakistan is the "next big thing" in tourism.. many countries has improved their image by this industry... We should atleast allot an adequate budget for this industry and run international ads for this project!!
