PESHAWAR: Six people were arrested and one man was killed during a joint operation conducted by security forces and the police along the border of Frontier Region (FR) Peshawar on Wednesday.

A bomb blast followed by an attack on the police in the past two days caused security forces to launch the operation early morning in Inzer Garhi and Sara Dargai villages. Police later joined the operation around noon. Officials arrested six people, who were shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation. A man identified as Zareen Khan, was killed during the operation after trying to resist by clashing with security forces.

“Initially, around 25 people were arrested, but 19 of them were released in the evening while the remaining six were taken away by security forces,” said a local on the condition of anonymity. A teenage boy identified as Waheedullah, a 9th grade student and resident of Kandao, FR Peshawar, was found dead during the operation as well. He had been brutally killed, with his severed head found 10 metres from his body. Waheedullah’s family members, however, refused to register an FIR.
