Domestic violence: Man arrested for ‘setting wife on fire’

The police quoted some of her relatives as saying that Ahmed had not let her to stay at her parent’s house.

FAISALABAD: A man was arrested on Monday after he allegedly set his wife on fire following a quarrel. He claimed that she had set herself ablaze. The woman was taken to the district headquarters hospital, where doctors treating her said that she had 45 per cent burns. Madina Town police said Ishrat Bibi had married Naseer Ahmad five years ago. The police quoted some of her relatives as saying that Ahmed had not let her to stay at her parent’s house. They said the couple had had been quarrelling over the matter for months. On Monday, they quarreled again. At the hospital, Dr Riffat Naureen said that Ishrat Bibi was in critical condition. Station House Officer Sub Inspector Obaidur Rehman said that the police were questioning the husband. They said the woman’s family suspected him of trying to kill her.
