Drone attacks: ‘Cast off American shackles’

The new government must prohibit drone strikes on Pakistani territory, says Hassan.

LAHORE: The newly elected leaders will have to deal with Washington’s policy of drone attacks in Pakistan, a statement by Jamaat-i-Islami ameer Syed Munawar Hassan on Sunday read. Hassan said the protection of its citizens’ lives was the foremost responsibility of a government. The drone attacks, he said, made a mockery of the sovereignty and independence of Pakistan. If the new government continued to support the policy like Musharraf and Zardari did, its popularity would soon turn to people’s hatred, he said.  The new government must disassociate its self from the War on Terror and prohibit drone strikes on Pakistani territory, Hassan said. Sharif must adopt a bold stance in accordance with the people’s aspirations, he said, and make it clear that drone attacks would not be tolerated.

The challenges before the new government is emormous . Only a new Pakistan is the solution .The old policies has to be replaced with new one . Talk with TTP and religious fundamentalist should have new approc h .Ask them to lay down their illesgal arm and ammunition before demanding ban on Drone strick . There no need of observing Kashmir solidarity day and blasphemy law . The new government is in a position to deal the issues tactfuly .
