ISLAMABAD/ LAHORE: President Asif Ali Zardari has rejected the resignation of Governor Punjab Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood and has advised him to continue his work, Express News reported.
The Governor of Punjab had sent his resignation to the president after the defeat of the Pakistan People Party in general elections of May 11.
However, the president has rejected his resignation and asked him to continue his work as governor till a new governor is appointed.

Dr, Khawaja Alaqama, Vice Chancellor Bahauddind Zakaria University, Multan is being tipped as the new governor of Punjab. If this really happens and an educationist par excellence is being appointed instead of a politician or a Vadera, that will , in fact, be the begining of a real change --- a change not only the people of Punjab but the whole country is eagerly waiting for. Needless to add that only a dynamic leader like Nawaz Sharif can bring such revlutionar change.

I did not mention constitution in my earlier comment. I said Parliamentary system, The system we adopted and inherited from the British. Britain does not even have written constitution. It is all about the spirit of the system and type of democracy a country chooses to follow. We have a written one, but we do not follow it. In Parliamentary system there is separate head of government (PM) and head of State (President/Queen/Governor General). There is a reason for that. Head of state is a non political personality in this system. System like US where President is both Head of Government and Head of State and is directly elected, can make political decisions not ours. Also in our system, members of National assembly are supposed to be legislators and are not required to do development work in their constituencies. With few exceptions that is primary job of local governments. Yet MNAs are given funds (even after Court forbade it while approaching elections).

Governor and President should have been non political to begin with. Involving politics in the office of president and governor by PPP is NON DEMOCRATIC spirit (according to parliamentary system of Pakistan). India has same political system, how often do you hear a governor of Indian state or their President in news and politics.
Wonder when Sindh Governor will feel compelled to hand over the post. Hmm.
