RAWALPINDI: Federal Minister for Railways Dr Abdul Malik Kasi on Thursday said a comprehensive and long-term strategy has been finalised to transform Pakistan Railways into a profit-earning entity. The minister stressed the need to strengthen freight services for generating income and steering the railways out of financial crises, adding that the scope of public-private partnership would be expanded. “The National Logistic Cell provided ten locomotives to Pakistan Railways under the public-private partnership programme. Such joint ventures will be encouraged to tackle the financial crunch being faced by the state entity,” he said. Kasi said the railway’s existing budget is extremely insufficient to meet its even day-to-day requirement and the caretaker government will suggest the coming government to increase its allocations.
