A peace committee member, who was also a local PML-N leader, was shot dead along with his guard in a targeted attack at Farooq Square on Thursday.
According to Mingora Police, Shahi Dawaran Khan, who was an active member of a local peace committee in Damghar village, Kabal tehsil, was returning home at around 6pm when unidentified assailants opened indiscriminate fire on his car. Khan and his guard sustained severe injuries as a result.
They were rushed to Saidu Teaching Hospital where both succumbed to their injuries.
Their bodies were shifted to Khan’s village for burial. After the incident, security forces cordoned off the area and initiated a search operation.
Meanwhile, locals from Mingora have shown reservations regarding the incident, questioning how the attackers managed to escape after conducting a targeted attack in a crowded bazaar which is constantly patrolled by police.
Before the incident, child activist Malala Yousafzai and All-Swat Hotel Association President Al-Haj Zahid Khan were also severely injured in attacks in broad daylight. The attackers managed to escape in both instances.
