KARACHI:

A district and sessions court convicted two men and acquitted another of robbery charges on Wednesday. The men were sentenced to three years imprisonment after the prosecution successfully built the case against them.

The district and sessions judge, Malir, Muhammad Yamin, convicted two men, Wasif and Ibrahim, and acquitted Jameel of robbery charges after hearing arguments from both sides.

According to the prosecution, the complainant of the case, Abdul Wahab, along with his two friends, Bilal and Mansoor, were mugged by three men near Mosamiat on the University Road in March 2012. The complainant and his companions were robbed of mobile phones and cash, he added.  Wahab later identified the suspects  in the police lockup at the Sachal police station and registered a case against them.

The police had already arrested the men and seized weapons from their possession in another case in an encounter in the limits of Sachal police station. The police had also claimed to have found the stolen mobile phones from them.

Ruling in favour of the complainant, the judge sentenced the two men, Wasif and Ibrahim, to three year imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs5,000 each. Jameel, however, was acquitted as prosecution failed to establish a case against him.
