The world number six from England, O’Sullivan secured a scrappy first frame but was soon back to his best with an almost perfect break of 135 in the second as he missed a difficult final black. However, fellow countryman Ebdon continued to battle as he came up with a break of 69 himself to keep himself in contention.
Ebdon battled even after he required three snookers in the first frame as he tried to take advantage of a mercurial O’Sullivan. But after six attempts to get out of a tough snooker, “The Rocket” cruised past the world number 17 to set up an encounter against the Australian, who overturned a 2-0 deficit to beat Mark Williams 3-2.
The World Champion seemed to be on the brink of elimination in the other semi-final after an unlucky moment in the first frame. After attempting a slow safety up to the yellow, the ball curved and the Australian was left with an awkward snooker. Robertson’s six attempts meant the Englishman sealed the first frame.
A bad break in the second frame saw the world number eight go 2-0 up as he compiled a break of 81. However, Robertson’s luck changed when he fluked a red in the third frame and managed a break of 68 to keep himself in contention.
He was back in form after that and then hit a century break followed up by another huge break of 80 as he won 3-2.
