Earlier on May 4, KESC had explained, on their Facebook page, the need to increase duration of load shedding.
KESC had tried its best to recover its dues from the governments of Pakistan and Sindh and forward the payments to fuel suppliers, in order to meet the power generation needs.
According to them, Federal and provincial governments owe Rs71 billion to KESC.
The electric supply company had went on to warn that the duration of load shedding may go up to 14 hours if dues are not cleared.

@ ALL HATERS: By this logic Karachi should stop sharing it's revenue with the rest of country.
@@Ghost Rider @All Karachiwalas: You nailed it!
And here starts the insecurities of Karachiites. I am a Lahori and still a part of that 15 hour or more loadshedding. They at 9 are dying. PML(N), if you are here please do something for Lahore, as all others are going gaga that Karachi's electricity will be stolen and be given to Lahore, we are still waiting. Where all the that electricity is going from Karachi? We are ALLL waiting!
Just 9? Just a reminder to everyone above whos blaming it on Nawaz Sharif, its not his govt. its still the care-take govt. But once NS comes, my request to him is to raise it further by 3hrs, so we can all share our miseries as a country
@khan; and another thing, for me, 'educated' choice is pml(n), not pti! (although i respect khan sb and have great love for him)
@khan: I guess you were replying Ghostrider. Please read my comment carefully . . I didn't say anything about kpk . Both punjab and kpk have been and still facing worse power cuts of their history(all thanks to zardari regime) if there's any power shortage there should be even distribution of power cuts! I hope nawaz sharif will uproot this issue so we'll not be fighting on this issue anymore! Pakistan zindabad!
When will you stop beating this false drum about "Karachi generating 65% of the revenue". Go see the NFC. Punjab makes 56% - 65% of the revenue but gets only 51% income. Karachi is a sea port where our exports pass out from, yes perhaps 65% of the revenue comes from exports passing through Karachi port, but that is vastly different from Karachi actually making these goods.
And I myself don't want to sound ethnic, but ask yourself why Karachi is 30 years behind Lahore even though Punjab gets disproportionately less income under the NFC. I sincerely hope you Karachiities stop this self pity and get to work building your city rather than complaining and doing blame game.
ET's moderators should tell me what's so wrong with this comment if they don't publish it.
Apparently, KESC does have the capacity to generate power and supply all of Karachi without any power outages. But they claim (and it does make sense) that they have not received a lot of payments from the public sector, preventing them to pay its suppliers. I am not siding with the KESC, but just talking from an economic point of view. The circular debt of Pakistan has soared to around 827bn in the last few months and gas shortages in this region are further worsening the situation in Karachi and the rest of Sindh. Regardless, lets hope this time around, the PML(N) does not ignore Sindh and the other provinces and let us hope for the best.
@opler: if u go according to your formula KPK shouldnt have any load shedding..as we are prodducing 5000 MW cheap electrcity and spending only 2300 MW ..ha but KPK will now face 24 hours loadshedding as sharif wouild like to punish us for an educated decision
@@everyone: Which agreement of not providing 650MW??? dont wanna sound ethnic but by this logic 65% of revenue that karachi generates, it should get atleast 20% of it.
Well gentlemen, get ready to be paid back in kind by our most exalted leaders.
it's time for people of other provinces to grow up.punjab has been suffering loadshedding for last 5 years from min 12 to 14 hours in cities like lahore if there is shortage of electricity it should be managed equally all over pakistan.
We have gone through this for 5 long years. This is a sad situation but we Punjabis can tolerate no more. the distribution should be just and equal. Its abt time wapda should stop providing kesc 650MW. According to the agreement kesc shod produce its own and not take away punjabs electricity.
there's only 6 or 9 hour loadshedding in khi? We are have been facing 18- 20 hours loadshedding in punjab for last 5 years! Hope pakistan will get rid of power cuts soon particularly in punjab!
Are there any more hours left in the day when there is no loadshedding !
Here you go....first gift to Karachi from the "to be" Nawaz Govt. No wonder what else they have in store..........
I hope PTI will come up with some policy statement on this :) As they claim majority of Khi voted for them
Welcome Nawaz Sharif! Already started showing his true colors against people of Karachi!
A very warm welcome to all Karachiites by your new king for the next five years. - Mian Saab
