SWABI: Several supporters and workers of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) sustained injuries when police baton-charged them during a protest in Swabi against ‘unfair’ election results, reported Express News.

On Monday, PTI supporters took to the streets in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad and Mardan, pressing the poll body to hold re-election or recount of votes in constituencies “rigged by Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz, Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Awami National Party”.

In Karachi, PTI activists defied the section 144 imposed by the government, and gathered in their hundreds to block the Shahrah-e-Faisal in presence of heavily armed police and rangers.

Lahore’s Ghazi Chowk was also packed with PTI protesters, while up to 500 PTI supporters took to the streets in Islamabad to express solidarity with the protesters in Karachi and Lahore.

PTI has been urging the Election Commission of Pakistan to hold re-elections in affected constituencies and involve the Army to ensure no political candidates sabotage the electoral process.

Give me a break folks. Us PTI supporters have attended the most peaceful rallies in the history of Pakistan. And we would openly accept the results of this election if it was free and fair, which it has been proven over and over again that it was not. I personally received calls, sms and emails with picture and video links from friends all over Pakistan that ballot boxes were being thrown out, people, particularly women, were told at gunpoint whom to vote for. This kind of democracy, we don't need. We know how to accept defeat - but not in a fixed match.

Nawaz Sharif should feel humbled that the forgiving AWAM have chosen him to lead the Nation. He should also acknowledge all the mistakes he made in his earlier incarnations such as the frozen dollars of overseas Pakistanis, the empty Motorway, the Mercedes imported under Yellow-cab scheme to mention just a few. He should do an honest soul searching and may even seek help in so doing. He will only succeed if he puts the AWAM ahead of his egotistic self. To do well he will have to get rid of the bad advisers.
