After announcing his resignation from the senate, Aitzaz Ahsan said that the resignation should be accepted and the rest of the decisions were in the hands of the party.
Aitzaz Ahsan's wife, Bushra Aitzaz contested and lost elections from the NA-124 constituency against Rohale Asghar, a candidate from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
According to Aitzaz Ahsan, voting results were bizarre as some polling stations had recorded a 150% voter turnout.
Results given by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should be reviewed, he added.
Wattoo resigns
Similarly Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, president of PPP's central Punjab chapter submitted a letter of resignation to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, accepting failure in delivering his duties.
In the letter addressed to Bilawal, Wattoo listed the problems of water and electricity scarcity, economic instability and media trials as the reasons for defeat.
Other PPP resignations
Sherry Rehman also resigned from her post as the Ambassador the US in a letter to the caretaker Prime Minister Mir Hazar Khan Khoso on Tuesday.
In 2011, Rehman was appointed as Pakistan’s Ambassador to the US after Husain Haqqani resigned in the wake of the Memogate scandal.
Earlier, former prime minister and PPP senior vice president Yousaf Raza Gilani resigned from his senior party position on Monday.
“Someone needs to stand up and accept responsibility and I accept responsibility,” he said.
He made the announcement during a press conference at Multan press club on Monday, two days after his party failed to get a substantive number of seats in the May 11 polls.
Correction: In an earlier version of the article, the name "Rohale" was misspelled as "Raheel". The error has been rectified.

@ Nida Excellent analysis! Various international magazines had analysed that PMLN will win majority in the upcoming elections. All public perception surveys indicated PMLN's victory.
Good. Now that we're all being so honourable today, how about surrendering that LPG quota in your wife's name?
"Similarly Mian Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo, president of PPP’s central Punjab chapter submitted a letter of resignation to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, accepting failure in delivering his duties." These people make me sick, they want to resign from the PPP for failing to deliver. Yet none of these people EVER resigned from the government or positions of authority for failing to deliver. These people are more loyal to the PPP and its kid chairman than the sovereign nation itself. Shame on you!
Very logical for Aitizaz to resign. His wife who was PPP candidate came in at number 3 with 7022 votes against PML-N winning candidate Mr Asghar who got 1,19,289 votes. PTI came in second with over 42,000 votes.
As to Mr Manzoor Wattoo , he has changed so many parties in his political career even he forgot. But his voters remember and did not vote for him.
Nida - I am amazed by you drawing the conclusion by first giving random statements and then classifying NS as serious and mature.
Yes "serious and mature" for money-laundering, attacking Supreme Court, signing a deal with Musharraf with the help of their Saudi patrons, dealing for dollars with the US for not conducting nuke tests, patronizing the Taliban, proving to be the 'legitimate' children of Zia legacy, make fool of the masses under the cheating slogan of Qarz-utaro-mulk-sanwaro, massively rigging 2013 elections...yes they are very serious and mature. Guys beware of some comment makers working on PML-N's payroll.
@Usman: "Now this is NEWS" . News? PPP was a stillborn phenomenon. ZAB succeeded in selling the idea to the feudals of Panjab, to survive would be to join hands with the similar ones of Sindh. The recent elections however, have made it abundantly clear, the country cannot get rid of ethnic biases as they are so deeply ingrained in the psyche. The bitter truth had to come to the fore some day. . The US supplied some oxygen to BB/PPP (aka Daughter of the West) as she had promised to deliver unstinted support for their operations in the region. Otherwise, PPP for all practical purposes was already a tale of the past. . IK+NS combo is a more promising proposition, at least for the West. The smarter rats are leaving the sinking ship. Intent of demarcation of voting districts of Karachi has been to strengthen the hands of the combo and hoping at the cost of MQM's vote bank. . The voters have done their bit now the bigger boys will take over-
.
It is once again proven that Mian sahab has outsmarted Zardari. While Zardari crafted & patronized PTI to divide PMLN’s votes (PPP+PTI alliance in NA-17, NA-18, NA-55, NA-56, NA-110 …..) it was Zardari and his coalition partners (PMLQ+ANP+MQM) who have suffered the most.
PPP is completely routed from Punjab (the 2 seats in RYK are won by incumbent Governor’s 2 sons), PMLQ is cut to size to a 1man party (it was the largest party in 2002 when General Musharraf had crafted after coup d’état in 1999),
ANP’s KPK was declared as the most corrupt provincial government (even surpassing PPP’s in Sindh & Balochistan) by Transparency International.
MQM is also expected to concede a few seats in it’s ethnic strongholds of Karachi.
The voters cannot be fooled by shallow slogans of tsunami, tsunama, change etc. The voters acknowledge the leaders who perform good governance & deliver progress.
No doubt, PMLN could have a bigger mandate had there been no spoiler factor by PTI. But PTI could not dent it and the damage got automatically diverted towards Zardari coalition!
Conclusion: PMLN has the most serious & mature leadership in the country.
2013 election results reminded of 1997 elections. Very similar tactics applied by NS.
Who's next Bilawal or Asif?
Next Presidential candidate?
Preperation for next Presidential elections?
@a&a: in 49 polling stations out of 35000 its about 0.004% AGREE?????
Aitzaz Ahsan was given Senate seat as a reward for advocating the case of former PM-Yousaf Raza Gillani in the Supreme Court. Now that his benefactor Gillani has resigned after losing on all 5 seats (sons & brothers), it was but logical for Aitzaz to resign.
Democrcy is best revenge. REMEMBER itezaz? This all is the curse of musharraf.
The PML-N candidate from NA-124 was Rohail Asghar (not Raheel Asghar as mentioned in your article)
Aitzaz Ahsan is good asset to own, should be welcomed in N-Leage, if he is willing to!!
150% turnout...... No comments!!!!!!!
They stole my vote.
Looking for new tree branches now ... ?
in simple fair weather friends and deserter he must fulfill his commitment it is just like gifting senate seat to new rulers at a price
It was not necessary to resign from the Senate seat. It is true that there has been massive rigging not only in Punjab but throughout Pakistan. I hope our EC will be courageous enough to revisit those constituencies where rightful has been denied his rights.
MQM done in Karachi what PML-N done in Punjab
Now this is NEWS
and finally maturity is observed. A couple more elections after full terms and Pakistan will be on its way to betterment.
Beginning of the end for PPP? Aitzaz Ahsan should join PTI. It's probably going to take over the remains of PPP.
Good democratic move!!! but there is nothing to do with PPP downfall!!
Interesting developments
Good: he has done his job very well for which he came. Soon he will left the party.
So when are you going to break the new Mr President, learn from your senior fellow party members please!
