RAWALPINDI:

The Punjab government put three teaching hospitals on high alert to tackle any emergency ahead of the election for which a notification was issued on Thursday.

Rawalpindi Medical College and Allied Hospitals chief Dr Umer’s spokesman said leaves of all doctors and paramedical staff have been cancelled whereas the emergency departments of Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) and District Headquarter Hospital (DHQ) would work round the clock to provide medical treatment to people in case of emergency. DHQ Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Suhail Ijaz, when contacted, said ambulances have been overhauled while all emergency medicines have been stocked.

“My office will remain open round the clock and I’ll be present to handle the situation,” he added. BBH MS Dr Asif Qadir Mir said senior doctors would remain on call. “The outpatient and emergency departments will remain open.”
