KARACHI/ TANDO ADAM: Pakistan Peoples Party candidate for NA-257, Comrade Riaz Hussain Baloch, has announced his withdrawal from the candidacy in favour of the party’s covering candidate, Naseem Khan.

Addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Monday, Baloch said that his nomination papers had been rejected by the court based on a petition filed against him by a rival candidate.

Despite having fought a long legal battle to have his nomination accepted, Baloch expressed regret that it was too late to start an election campaign and the party ticket for the constituency had been allotted to Naseem Khan after consultation with the party leadership.

Two ASWJ candidates withdraw

Two Ahle Sunnat Wal Jammat candidates have withdrawn in favour of Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) contenders. Muhammad Arif Noorani has made way for Imamuddin Shaukeen on NA-236 while Asif Ansari has withdrawn in favour of Shakeel Ahmed on PS-82.

The PML-F vote bank has risen substantially after the spiritual leader of Ghousia Jamaat, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, also announced his support for the party’s nominees. Shakeel Ahmed said that the PML-F and its allies would emerge victorious as the Pakistan Peoples Party has done nothing for the people.
