SUKKUR: A policeman was injured in crossfire between Mirbahar and Chachar tribesmen near the Qadirpur Gas Field in Ghotki, on Saturday.

Some men belonging to the Mirbahar tribe were fishing near police picket No. 7 of Qadirpur Gas Field, when a group of armed men from the Chachar tribe approached them and tried to steal their catch.

The Chachars left when the Mirbahars put up a resistance. After the Chachar men covered some distance, however, they opened fire which was answered in kind. The police rushed to the site to intervene.

The police also started firing at the tribesmen when one of the constables, Ameen Magsi, was hit by a bullet. He was taken to a nearby hospital.

The police have neither made any arrests nor have they registered a case.

The Mirbahar family is known for fishing, which is their main source of income apart from gathering wood from the kachcha areas of the river.
