Former prime minister and chief of his own faction of Pakistan Muslim League-N Nawaz Sharif on Friday heaped scorn at “corrupt and venal” politicians for reversing the country’s economic gains in the last five years.
Since then, Pakistan has lagged behind India in the economic sphere, Nawaz told a public gathering in Kot Addu of Muzaffarhgarh district.
“I left the economy in a strong position (compared to India’s) but today our currency is the weakest in all of Asia,” Nawaz said.
He claimed that upon winning the May 11 elections his party would begin looking at the energy crisis afresh.
Nawaz added that his party’s policies would enable Pakistan to export energy and would make the country the backbone of the Asian economy.
The PML-N chief asserted that the country would not be facing terrorism, load-shedding, food and health crises and unemployment if his party had not been ousted by General (retd) Pervez Musharraf in 1999.
He claimed that successive governments enjoyed privileges but destroyed the progress of the country. According to him, PML-N is facing a coalition of political parties that are trying to maintain the status quo of corrupt politicians, dictators and feudal lords but his party would overcome them all.
Nawaz said that instead of merely giving hope, he will give employment to the youth, adding that in the last five years in Punjab, PML-N had generated employment for one million youth on the basis of merit. His party will focus its resources on health and education, he said.
He was confident that the youth was behind PML-N because of the party’s practical policies, among which was a scholarship programme that aided the needy.
“I feel proud today that the youth consider Shahbaz Sharif its ideal in terms of good governance, merit, accountability and dedication for the people of Pakistan. His services in the flood-hit areas will never be forgotten,” Nawaz said.

It is the same trick employed by both PML N and PPP.
In 5 years time Billawal will claim there wws no load shedding during the PPP reign and the economy was the biggest in Asia.
Just like Nawaz is claiming that in 1999 the country was prospering and the economy was doing well.
Politics is just a by word for lies and theft these days.

That is complete lie. Pakistan was bankrupt when he left power in1999. The economy was ruined.
