High-risk areas: Political agents outline security plan in Khyber, Bajaur

46 polling stations sensitive in Jamrud, Landikotal.

KHAR/ JAMRUD: Around 46 polling stations have been declared sensitive out of the 231 in Bajaur Agency.

Addressing levies officials in Khar on Thursday, Political Agent Abdul Jabbar said levies forces would be deployed along with quick response units for security measures. He added the government has taken several steps to strengthen and empower the levies in the tribal areas, adding they had been given new weapons.

The political agent said action will be taken against any official found to be taking part in an election campaign.

Forty-six polling stations were also termed sensitive of the 122 in Khyber Agency.



Jamrud Assistant Political Agent and returning officer Jehangir Azam Wazir said 21 polling stations in Landikotal and 25 in Jamrud were sensitive.

Speaking about security measures in both tehsils, Wazir said special identity cards would be issued to journalists, while Frontier Corps personnel would be deployed in high-risk areas.

Ten khasadars along with levies officials would be deployed on sensitive polling stations. He also said action will be taken against any official found to favour a particular candidate. An assistant line officer has been suspended for his support to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, he added.

A ban has been imposed in both tehsils on the display of weapons until Election Day.
