The retired general has been humiliated since returning in March from self-imposed exile to contest elections. He is currently under house arrest in connection with two other legal cases and has been barred from running for parliament.
"A three-member team of Balochistan comprising senior police officials is investigating general Musharraf," prosecutor Hassan Kakar told AFP.
They would also record his statement in the case, he said.
Baloch nationalist leader Bugti was killed in a cave on August 26, 2006 during a military crackdown ordered by Musharraf.
Bugti was the chief of the Jamhoori Watan Party and an influential tribal chief who controlled the gas-rich district of Dera Bugti.
Two local police officials confirmed on Thursday that Musharraf had been questioned at his Islamabad villa by Balochistan police.
Musharraf is being held under house arrest over the 2007 murder of opposition leader Benazir Bhutto and for sacking judges in 2007 when he imposed emergency rule.

After the election results are know, I am curious- will Musharaff be punished for Bugti murder.
@ Rex Minor. That shows the true mentality of Musharraf''s opponents. If he was born in Punjab (a fertile land for producing military rulers) or any other province of today's Pakistan, the people would have gladly accepted him as 'the saviour of pakistan'.
@ Citizen Khan (and his like-minded). While he was still in power, general Musharraf announced his government had paid off all IMF debts and that the country needs no more loans from the IMF. This is absolutely wrong to say IMF debts increased during his rule.
-- If free media was inevitability, then why this 'inevitability' was not in the previous regimes, civil and military and they freed the press. The applications for a number of new TV channels were kept for years and years by the pre-Musharraf governments.
-- Yes, provision of women seats in parliament was always there but their number was increased by Musharraf government.
Condition of graduation for parliamentarians was introduced to check the criminals entry into parliament. . All the food grains, pulses, sugar, milk and other necessities of daily use were produced in Pakistan. (Onions, tomotatos etc. were not imported from India and elsewhere during his time). Remember his prices? Atta Rs.17/- per kilo (now Rs. 40/-), all pulses from Rs.24/- to Rs 38/- per kilo (now from Rs. 80/- to Rs. 110/-), Basmati rice from Rs.28/- to Rs.35/- per kilo (now more than double price) milk Rs. 26/- per litre etc. etc. Moreover, Pakistan produced food enough to cater for the needs of its people. What if India and other countries raised their prices, how it is going to affect ours.
Yes, he raised the slogan of 'Pakistan First' (and not "My Pocket First" by the politicians). That shows his patriotism.
@Rai: "He should also be tried for – handing over Afia Siddiqi to USA – granting permission to NATO for drone strikes – selling hundreds of Pakistanis to USA." . One more to be nailed for our sins. Hallelujah.
@MS786:
He will most probably confim your statement, and accept the responsibility for sending 40,000 odd military soldiers to death. Todays Gvernment and the militay is doing everything in power to protect him Was he the whistle blower on Sheikh Osama after first granting him first the refuge in the garrison town and later after leaving the country revealed the whereabouts to his pals.
Rex Minor
@Breaking Bad:
A very good point. For the stability of the country he should be sent to his home where he was born.
Rex Minor
Let's quiz him about the death of Jinnah & Liaqat Ali Khan also. Yes involve him in Zia ul Haq's plane crash also.
And who will try the ones murdering hundreds and thousands of poor Baloch today? Musharraf will never the fairly tried because as someone else rightly said, if he goes down, a lot of powerful people in the establishment will go down.
If Balochistan was separated or civil war would have started then of course it would have been all musharraf's fault. Nothing wrong with removing threats to stability of the country.
I bet, he will be out of country in a few weeks.
Mushi is being questioned on Bugti's killing: good but what about killing hundreds of innocents in Jamia Hafsa? What about handing thousands of Muslims to the US in exchange with few dollars per head? Don't know why the murder of a high-profile is considered a murder while slaying the public has never been taken seriously in our state.
@Rai: Raj and all Aafia Siddiqi supporters, please do some research on this "daughter of Pakistan" before making any statements about her. Our media needs to expose Aafia Siddiqi; everybody is too scared of Taliban backlash.
Akbar Bugti was leading an armed insurgency against the state and died during the process of a milltary operation to bring him to the book.Four to five military officers(who were going inside the cave to meet Bugti) including the one leading the field operation were killed along with Bugti and others not because of any action by the military but because of probable action by the persons under Bugti control in the cave in which he was hiding in Marri area. Musharraf's uncalled for arrest in the case have serious ramifications.
@Dooli: First of all Musharraf's NRO was between BB and him. If Musharraf did not do the reconciliation then BB and Nawaz could not come to Pakistan. Do you think their parties will go in the election without their party head. There will be protest in their favour. Instead of blaming Musharraf why not you blame on yourself and your like minded people who have voted and bring them into power. Musharraf did not give charge of Presidency to Zardari so your blame on Musharraf is not right.
what is the proof that Dr. Aafia was not involved in terrorist activities?? why don't Americans question me?? or thousands of women living in Pakistan? this is mere drama!! to trap Musharaf. Long live Musharaf we are with you
@rai. And --and--carry on, you sadists rightists.Would you also like to try him for giving you the cleanest governance, the strongest economy, the technological revolution and the FREE MEDIA!Give the man a fair trial and the truth will dawn.
One never knows. He may be charged with murder of Sarbajit Singh
@Aladin Khan: Hey Pro-N guys, watch out, this guy is being sarcastic.
Musharraf will soon be arrested in murder of Liaqat Ali Khan, the first Prime Minister of Pakistan. Thanks to Judicial activism.
Will they do a ZAB on him too? Curious! Time will tell.
His biggest sin was NRO that made us all suffer for 5 long years and briught the country down to its knees.
General Musharraf should also be tried for his heinous crimes of :- --Paying off all debts of IMF and no further dependence on this imperialistic ` blood-sucking monetary institution, --Giving freedom of press to hitherto gagged press, --Increasing number of women legislators, --Condition of Graduate for legislators, --Adopting better economic policies and controlling dearness of commodities of daily use, and above all --raising the slogan of 'Pakistan First'.
In the End it will be 0/0 .
Leave aside all other cases, only try him for saving Pakistan from terrorists.
I remember, in 2006, my brother's mother-in-law's cousin's chicken was stolen in Rawalpindi. I am told Mr Pervez Musharraf had ordered the theft. I request that he be tried for that too, now that he is in the net!
@Rai: Sure. Anything else you'd like to add to your wish list?
He should also be tried for - handing over Afia Siddiqi to USA - granting permission to NATO for drone strikes - selling hundreds of Pakistanis to USA - and many more grave charges in addition to the listed above
he goes down . lot of people will go down with him so definitely those people will not let him go down.
