Brigadier (R) Imtiaz released on LHC orders
LHC orders release of Brigadier (retd) Imtiaz from the Adiala Jail.
Brigadier (retd) Imtiaz Ahmed was released from Adiala Jail on Saturday on the orders of the Lahore High Court.
A division bench of the LHC granted interim bail to the former head of the Intelligence Bureau on Thursday and directed his release on bail bonds of Rs20 million.
Imtiaz’s counsel requested the court to release him on medical grounds as he suffered from heart disease.
The bench has directed authorities to file his health report on the next hearing scheduled for October.

Court fails to produce orders for surety bonds
Surety bonds worth Rs20 million for the bail of Brigadier (retd) Imtiaz Ahmed could not be submitted because the Accountability Court failed to produce the Lahore High Court’s previous orders in this regard.
Ahmed, former chief of Intelligence Bureau (IB), was granted bail on Thursday on the condition that he would deposit surety bonds.
His counsel Ajmal Ghafar attempted to submit the bonds in a hearing at the Accountability Court No3 of the National Accountability Bureau on Friday.
However, the court was unable to find the original LHC orders which called for the submission of these bonds.
Ahmed had originally been charged with cases of financial embezzlement and was serving an eight-year sentence in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi when he was freed after the enactment of the National Reconciliation Order (NRO).
When the NRO was nullified, the Supreme Court ordered that cases be resumed from their previous states, and this had once again led to the arrest of Ahmed.
A three-member bench, headed by Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry approved Ahmed’s bail on Thursday but ordered that he submit surety bonds within three days.
Ahmed’s surety bonds can not be submitted until attested copies of LHC’s verdict are found.
The bail was given on grounds of his age (73) and medical condition.
The bench was later adjourned till October 6, when a medical board will be constituted to gauge the defendant’s health.
