Ahmed Chaudhry and Usman Ijaz cruised into the men’s singles quarter-finals of the Subhe Nau Clay Court Tennis Championship being played at the Islamabad Club yesterday.
Chaudhry was dominant throughout the match as he defeated Ikramullah 6-0, 6-1 in the second round, while Ijaz outclassed Yousuf Ajam 6-1, 6-3 to book a place in the quarter-final.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Mudassir downed Muhammad Hashim 6-0, 6-1 in the boy’s under-18 singles event, while Salman bin Saleem outplayed Amir Khan 6-2, 6-1.
Waqas Baig also overcame Jibranullah 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) to progress to the quarter-finals of the juniors’ event. In the ladies single event, top-seed Saba Aziz made a winning start, defeating Rida Khan 6-0, 6-0 in the opening match. Meheq Khokhar outclassed Mahvish Chishtie 6-0, 6-1 while Mahin Aftab outplayed Marium Mirza 6-2, 6-4.
