LAHORE:

Police on Tuesday arrested a man who allegedly blackmailed several young women out of hundreds of thousands of rupees over the course of three years by threatening to leak pictures and videos of them online.

An investigation officer said that Jehanzeb, 32, had been wanted at three police stations – New Anarkali, Defence and Gulshan Iqbal  and police had uncovered at least five other cases in which the victims had been reluctant to come forward.

According to the police, Jehanzeb, a Sabzazar resident, would make friends with young women over the phone and then get them to send him pictures or videos. He would then threaten to send these to their parents or upload them on Facebook if they did not pay him.

Police officials said that they had obtained phone records as evidence of the suspect’s blackmail and threats. He faces charges of criminal intimidation and obscenity.
