Healthcare through the ages: AKUH inaugurates $14.5m building

The building was built over a two-year-period with donations worth $14.5 million.

KARACHI: The Aga Khan University Hospital inaugurated a new building, Jenabai Hussainali Shariff Building, on its 84-acre-wide campus at Stadium Road, Karachi, on Tuesday.

The building, which was built over a two-year-period with donations worth $14.5 million, is located next to the hospital’s main entrance and will house clinics, testing booths, offices, reception areas as well as operating theatres.

“It represents the beginning of an exciting phase in our plans to develop Pakistan,” said the hospital’s president, Firoz Rasul.

He pointed out that the number of patients visiting the hospital had doubled over the past few years.

“The new building will be equipped with the latest equipment and will offer medical services of global standards.”

The chief operating officer at the hospital, Nadeem Ahmed, pointed out that the building’s proximity to the hospital will facilitate access to the clinics for the patients and will make the services provided by the hospital more efficient.
