There is no plan to shift Sarabjit Singh abroad for medical treatment, nor is this possibility being considered by the doctors treating him, the Chief Executive of Jinnah Hospital Professor Mahmood Shaukat said on Monday.
“No doctor of the medical board examining Sarabjit Singh has recommended that he should be shifted abroad,” Shaukat said.
Death row prisoner and convicted Indian spy Sarabjit Singh is undergoing treatment in Jinnah Hospital since Friday after he was badly beaten by inmates in Kot Lakhpat Jail.
Terming Sarabjit’s health condition ‘static’, Shaukat said he is still on a ventilator.
“Singh is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and senior doctors are constantly keeping an eye on his condition,” he said. Another doctor privy to the examination board reports said: “On the Glasgow Coma Scale, the reading of Singh is 3/15 which is very critical.”
He said that even though Sarabjit is on a ventilator, his breathing is not spontaneous; adding that surgical intervention at this point will not be helpful.
After visiting her brother in the hospital, Sarabjit’s sister, Dalbit Kaur said the doctors were withholding information and not revealing how serious her brother’s condition was.
Kaur also asked the government to shift her brother to India.
“If this is not possible then at least allow some Indian doctors to treat him,” she said.
Kaur alleged that in todays meeting she saw her brother’s left thumb blotted with ink, which suggests that authorities have been taking Sarabjit’s thumb prints while he is in a coma.
Meanwhile, Sarabjit’s attackers, Amir and Mudassir, have been detained and jail authorities have imposed restrictions on meeting them.
Sources in the jail said six prisoners were involved in attacking the death row prisoner but only two were nominated in the First Information Report.
Investigation officer Inspector Rehmat of Kot Lakhpat Police Station said he recovered the weapons used in the attack. The assailants used a two foot long piece of a pipe and a brick to beat Sarabjit, the investigation officer said.
Giving details about the statement of the accused, Rehmat said both the attackers said they had planned to attack Sarabjit for days.
“India executes Muslims like Ajmal Kasab and Afzal Guru but our government sets Indian prisoners free,” the investigation officer quoted the attackers as saying.
Rehmat added that the accused would not be brought out of the jail for investigation and they would be tried in Kot Lakhpat after being permitted by a judicial magistrate.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has been requested through a writ petition to communte the death sentences of at least 120 prisoners, including Sarabjit, to life imprisonment.
The petition was moved by the Watan Party through Barrister Zafarulallah Khan. The petitioner said the death sentences were given to nearly 120 prisoners including Sarabjit Singh, but these were not implemented for the past 20 years.

Attack on any prisoner is condemnable, be it anyone...... Lets find out the reasons of attack and punish the responsibles.
Its nothing new for Pakistan to illegally 'execute' Sarabjit Singh using 'non-state' actors. Shame on you Pakistan. You do everything using 'non-state' actors. Shame
@Foreign Leg: we have seen what you people had done with sipahi maqbool hussain. his tongue was also removed .your spy was kept in good condtions till now. whole pakistan cannot be accountable for deads of two or three people . same as we don't put India accountable when our blind cricket captain was poisoned in india on tour as the guest of indian government.
To all those highlighting the inhuman behaviour of Pakistan, Remember Guru ? His family was informed days after his execution. Pakistan gave consular access to an indian terrorist and visas to his family. Guru was buried in Jail, rest assured, Pakistan will hand over his dead body to India, Remember Kashmir Singh & Surjeet Singh ? they were indian spies & terrorists who were released alive recently (who later on accepted that they spied for india) I hope people understand now which country shows more humanity
i have other things to worry about
@Avenger: I just have one question for you without even getting into the specifics of this case. . Is this the way you treat a prisoner? . What has happened with Sarabjit Sigh is beyond the pale and inhuman. A sovereign country must take responsibility of foreign citizens even if they are in prison.
@Avenger: "this attack served him well.." +++++++++++++++++++++++++ Sir Your comment well reveals the depth of your education values and dignity.
Sarbajit was involved in spying and bomb blast... this attack served him well..
We all know that certain quarters in Pakistan were baying for Sarabjit's blood after the execution of Guru. It is not far fetched to think that this was a planned conspiracy to eliminate Sarabjit at a time when Pakistan is in transition. . The past few years have seen Indo-Pak relations take one step forward and two steps back. This incident will no doubt see relations take many steps back.
3/15 on the Glasgow Coma Scale means that he is already dead or in deep coma and is the lowest score on the GCS. At this time talk of exoneration is foolhardy. The Indian government must ensure that he gets the best possible care. . There have been multiple instances of dereliction of duty by Pakistan in the case of Mr. Singh. Security in the prison was lax that he was attacked by 5 or more prisoners. After the incident, he was treated at the prison hospital instead od immediately shifting him out to Jinnah hospital. Pakistan has also delayed informing the Indian Consul General in the immediate aftermath of the attack.
Where does the Buck stop in Pakistan? +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Who failed in ensuring protection to Sarabjit in a Pakistani jail? Can ET name and shame these officials. Will they be included in the investigations ?
"Kaur alleged that in todays meeting she saw her brother’s left thumb blotted with ink, which suggests that authorities have been taking Sarabjit’s thumb prints while he is in a coma." +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ What no denials? The Indian Consular team should verify this and intimate the public.
“India executes Muslims like Ajmal Kasab and Afzal Guru but our government sets Indian prisoners free,” the investigation officer quoted the attackers as saying. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Pls name one Indian prisoner set free by the Pakistani Govt. Pls. India set free 90000 Pakistani prisoners in 1971........never forget that.
Meanwhile, Sarabjit’s attackers, Amir and Mudassir, have been detained and jail authorities have imposed restrictions on meeting them. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ The failure of the prison authorities that were responsible for the safety of the Indian also needs to be investigated and the guilty punished. They are as much guilty of "attacking"Sarabajit as Amir & Mudassir.
“India executes Muslims like Ajmal Kasab and Afzal Guru but our government sets Indian prisoners free,” the investigation officer quoted the attackers as saying.
What about Muslim Pakistanis that Saudi Arabia executes ?
