One killed as ANP candidate in Charsadda escapes bomb attack

Explosion was outside ANP candidate Mohammad Ahmad Khan's office which injured 15 people.

CHARSADDA: One person was killed and 15 others were wounded in an explosion that took place outside Awami National Party (ANP) candidate Mohammad Ahmad Khan's office in Charsadda on Monday, Express News reported.

"The explosion took place near my car," said ANP candidate, Mohammad Ahmad Khan.

Three other cars were also damaged in the explosion that occurred in Sardheri Bazar returning from an electoral campaign. The nearby shops also suffered damage.

At least two children were wounded in the blast.

The security squad rushed to the site of the explosion and cordoned off the area for further investigation.

Initial police reports suggested that it could have been a suicide attack, though the bomb disposal squad later confirmed that the explosion was caused by a remote-controlled device that was planted on a motorcycle.

Earlier on Monday, a suicide bomber killed at least eight people and wounded 45 other when he rammed his motorcycle into a bus on University road near Azam Tower in Peshawar on Monday.
