All expelled QMC students restored

LHC restores Quaid-e-Azam Medical University students suspended by academic council.

BAHAWALPUR: The Bahawalpur bench of the Lahore High Court on Thursday restored all Quaid-e-Azam Medical University (QAU) students suspended by the academic council.

A total of 32 students were suspended by the academic council owing to their alleged involvement in damaging college property and inciting riots on campus. 15 had already been restored by the bench on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the controversial QMC principal, Ijaz Shah, has been made an officer on special duty (OSD) and an acting principal has been appointed in his place. Dr Attaul Mazhar has taken charge of his duties as the acting principal. A notification in this regard was issued by the provincial government on Wednesday.

QMC students had been on strike, boycotting classes and exams, for more than a month against the lack of appropriate facilities on campus and highhandedness of the administration. They were baton charged in and outside the campus on by the police for protesting against the administration. Several students were arrested and later released.

Students of several medical colleges of Multan, Rahim Yar Khan and Bahawalpur region had also announced to form an action committee to deal with the situation.
