PESHAWAR:

Heavily armed militants attacked Sheikhan police post and also blew up a small shrine in the village on the outskirts of the city. The incident occurred in the limits of Badhaber police station on Sunday night.

Locals said around a dozen armed militants arrived in Sheikhan Bazaar at around 9pm and fired aerial shots. They forced shopkeepers to shut down the market within 10 minutes and asked people to stay indoors.

The militants then planted two explosive devices in the shrine of Sheikh Abdullah Shah. One of the bombs exploded while the other was defused by the bomb disposal squad (BDS). The blast damaged the shrine, but no one was harmed.

Following this, militants turned their attention towards the police post but were repulsed after Sarband and Badhaber police sent reinforcements just in time when Sheikhan police were running low on ammunition.

The exchange of fire lasted for half an hour, after which the militants fled towards Akka Khel, Khyber Agency. A Badhaber police official said no one was injured in the shoot-out.
