Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) president Senator Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said that regarding Pervez Musharraf treason case, all concerned must avoid taking steps whose consequences they will not be able to control afterwards.
He called for caution and restraint in proceedings against the former army chief.
Talking to reporters here on Sunday, he said that Musharraf’s case is a sensitive issue which could have wider repercussions and now that the election campaign is in full swing, this is certainly not the time for taking such hasty steps, as it would be detrimental to the national interest and the interests of democracy.
Chaudhry Shujaat said that Pakistan is passing through a critical juncture and there is a need to have a forward-looking approach to resolve the fundamental problems facing the people, rather than being hostage to the past.
Hussain said that he had always spoken up against the politics of revenge and victimisation, adding that any attempt to humiliate either an individual or an institution would be counterproductive and dangerous.
He warned that this was not simply a matter concerning the person of Pervez Musharraf, but it could also open up a Pandora’s box. “We should all rise above our personal and partisan interests to take the broader interests of the people as a whole, otherwise there will be no winners and everybody will be the loser,” he concluded.

one only hopes that this voice of sanity is heard by all & sundry, particularly those deriving vicarious pleasure out of prevailing situation vis-a-vis President Gen:Pervaiz Musharraf.
, "he said that Musharraf’s case is a sensitive issue which could have wider repercussions and now that the election campaign is in full swing, this is certainly not the time for taking such hasty steps, as it would be detrimental to the national interest and the interests of democracy"
is he not saying in veiled words that further humiliation to Musharraf may lead to reaction aka something like a coup by military ( which will be against the democracy) ?
Amongst all the political leaders. They have one thing in common i.e. they fuel the already tense situation or remain silent while this person is sensible and calms the situation.
Let justice be done. All are equal before the eyes of law.
Shujaat: Most pro status quo politician ever.
