Former army chief and president Pervez Musharraf is being held in ‘isolation’ in his luxury farmhouse in Chak Shahzad, confined to two rooms and stripped of his personal staff, a spokesperson for his All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) party said on Sunday.
An anti-terrorism court remanded Musharraf in custody on Saturday for 14 days after his arrest over his decision to sack judges when he imposed emergency rule in November 2007.
The Adiala Jail staff took administrative control of the plush farmhouse after it was declared a sub-jail by the Islamabad chief commissioner at a request of the local police. The move saved the former president from the indignity and risk of going to prison.
However, APML spokesperson Dr Muhammad Amjad complained that Musharraf’s lawyers and staff were being denied access to him.
“He is isolated … he has been confined to just two rooms and all telephone and internet connections have been disconnected … he is being subjected to harsher conditions than those at Adiala Jail,” said Dr Amjad.
He added that Musharraf’s food was being prepared separately by the sub-jail authorities as well and could be easily manipulated as such. He warned that “the Punjab government will be held responsible if anything happens to Musharraf.”
Musharraf has also been barred from receiving any visitors, both family members and his lawyers. “How can he carry on his legal consultations if the authorities continue this attitude?” questioned Dr Amjad. “We have court hearings over the next three consecutive days. If he is not allowed to meet his lawyers, how will we fight his case?”
However, a senior Islamabad police officer said since the farmhouse has been declared a sub-jail, all prison rules would apply. “Jail rules permit visitors only at certain timings on specified days. According to the rules, Musharraf will be allowed to have visitors from today,” he added.
While Adiala Jail staff has administrative control of the farmhouse, according to the officer, Rangers and police commandos had been deployed alongside jail staff for protection.
Meanwhile, the Joint Investigation Team, comprising police, Intelligence Bureau and Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) officials, is set to launch its probe into the judges’ detention case today (Monday). They will question the former president.
Lal Masjid cleric’s son to register case
Haroon Ghazi, the son of Lal Masjid deputy cleric Abdur Rashid Ghazi who was killed in the 2007 military operation, has decided to approach the court in order to register a murder case against Musharraf for the killings of his father and grandmother.
In a statement on Sunday, Haroon said he would file an application with the Islamabad sessions court on April 23, requesting it to order the Aabpara police station to register a case against Musharraf under section 302.

I have heard that his farm house is really huge and spacious . if he doesnt like that 'house' arrest , I dont mind switching places with him.
Awwww, poor man. How will he survive without his cigars?
Musharraf has brought disrepute to the honorable Pak Army. He should not get extraordinary support from that high institution.
@Ascharful Makhlooq: Please do not put all responsibility of your actions on GOD. You should be mature enough to accept the results/benefits and side effects of your actions Remember there was a joke .when earth Quake came to Japan then to USA and finally to Pakistan. Then GOD said he was going to Pakistan because they will put all responsibility on me.
We should not refer to any building as mosque where confirmed anti-socail activities were conducted. Lal building folks are criminals
This is Pakistan where every leader is mistreated badly but he is a soldier not the civilian who couldn't afford the these ordeals.....Musharraf is great man and definitely he shall afford all these ordeals and succeed Insha Allah Almighty......
1 - Why hasnt anyone filed a case against Lal Masjid molvees 2 - Musharraf served in the army all his life, his critics are just too ungreateful when comparing him to a common criminal 3 - Every other politician has been involved in some type of deceit and corrupt activity, whilst there are 1.4million outstanding cases which our Judiciary fails common public. Those politicians should remember they are on the high ground, but Musharraf is on the higher moral ground which will public will see through eventually (I pray). 4 - Dont forget how other great dictators in the world come to power and stayed for decades, what was their driving force and backing,...army...not public support. Expect wrath as you have touched on our armys pride and prestige. Pray our army get their fingers out soon.
We love you Musharraf, we are with you.
He is isolated … he has been confined to just two rooms and all telephone and internet connections have been disconnected … he is being subjected to harsher conditions than those at Adiala Jail,” said Dr Amjad. Hmm.. is Adiala jail an internet cafe where prisoners get 24/7 inetrnet connectivity and can meet anyone who comes to meet them?? I am at a loss of words DR Amjad
If it is worse than Adiala jail, then transfer him to Adiala jail, please. Is govt paying him rent to declare his palace as sub jail? Can any body answer this question? I do not want this guy to make more money from the tax payers while sitting in his palace.
what goes around comes around general sb!
Nothing harsh will come commando's way. He being the ex President of Pakistan and alleged (not sentenced) for a crime (which with all probability is expected to be proved) and therefore been kept in his farm house , declared as a sub jail.. After the verdict he will be s)ent to the prison. Army is learning its lessons.
OK. So then take him to Adiala jail
My goodness, it is a sub-jail and what does he expects, people go to jails for a reason, they violate the laws of the land and land in jail. One should keep in mind that he is alive and kicking while there are hundreds of people just vanished during his regime and some of them wind up in Gitmo, being tortured by CIA and other security agencies. Yes, he should be allowed to see his lawyers but not several times a day, the judiciary must see to it that a fair trial is being conducted although there was no such thing for others during his dictatorship. The man has violated the constitution by taking over by force a legitimate government and incarcerated the sitting PM, so please Dr.Amjad tell us what should be done to a person who has subverted the constitution and above all confined the whole superior judiciary to their residences and even their kids were not allowed to go outside. I think the nation should think about this whole affair and reward him his due.
Those responsible for the Lal Masjid operation should have murder cases registered against them and suggested that the former rulers of the country should be forced to pay compensations to the aggrieved families.
Living in a lavish and decorated farm house and considering it as sub-jail is nothing but making nation believe farce. Every criminal onwards should be banned to live in his house. Why we need prisons? Are they only for common men or civilian leaders such as ZAB Shaheed, G.M Syed, BB Shaheed, Asif Zardari,Gilani, Hashmi, Altaf Hussain, Qadir Magsi, Mian Nawaz Sharif etc.,?
The horror! Fine, move him to Adiala jail then! Are you saying that an ex-commando and Army chief cant live without his servants?
