Expired CNICs can be used to cast votes: ECP

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced that registered voters whose Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) have expired can vote in the upcoming general elections, Express News reported on Sunday.

A statement released by the ECP said that people will be allowed to vote if they haven’t been able to renew their CNICs.

The officers at polling stations will check CNICs for verification purposes, the statement said.

It is compulsory for voters to carry their identity cards to the polling stations so that rigging in elections can be prevented.

The total number of registered voters has been estimated to be 86,189,751, out of which 49.25 million are from Punjab, 18.96 million from Sindh, 3.33 million from Balochistan and 12.2 million from K-P.
