KARACHI:

In protest of the Karachi Fish Harbor Authority’s decision to lease out the land of the Karachi Fishery and to construct a boundary wall around it, a rally was held by the fishermen associations at the fishery on Thursday.

The protesters under the umbrella of the Karachi Fishermen Mazdoor Welfare Association (KFMWA), Sindh Trawlers Owners and Fishermen Association and Sindhi Mahigir Association warned to shut the fishery and observe a sit-in at the Native Jetty Bridge for an indefinite period if the authority did not take back its decisions.

“We will shut the Native Jetty Bridge after three days if the decision of building a boundary wall and leasing out the land of the fishery is not taken back,” said the KFMWA general-secretary Waheed Mughal. “The fishermen are the real owners of the land - if the government can’t do anything good for then, at least they shouldn’t snatch their livelihood,” said Mughal.
