The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced that 617 polling stations will be set up in Swat for two national and seven provincial assembly constituencies.
About 200 polling stations across the district have been declared sensitive, out of which 50 have been classified as ‘highly sensitive’. Out of the 617 polling stations, 195 are designated for men, 195 for women and 227 for combined voters.
Swat is gradually being engulfed in election fever since the nomination for candidates has been approved – a total of 257 people. Nominations were rejected for two Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) candidates Syed Jahangir Shah and Shah Aslam Khan, and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Muheebullah and Abdullah.
Awami National Party’s (ANP) Nisar Khan and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Shah Ezzat withdrew their nominations voluntarily. The PML-N vice president and party stalwart, Amir Muqam will also be contesting for a National Assembly and a provincial assembly seat from two constituencies.
The scrutiny phase for candidates’ nomination papers for Swat has been completed. A tough competition between the PTI, PML-N and ANP is expected for the National Assembly seats.
There are a total of 981,824 registered voters in the region.
