A complete shutter-down strike was observed in Matli on the call of Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam and other religious parties to protest against wall-chalking against Hazrat Ameer Muawiya.
Maulana Abdul Sattar Farooqi, Maulana Gul Hassan and Jameel Kashmiri blamed certain elements of wishing to destroy peace in the city. A group of people staged a protest where they pelted buses with stones and burnt tyres. They also besieged a police station demanding to know why an FIR had not been registered.
