BANNU: Bannu police along with the bomb disposal squad (BDS) thwarted a terrorist bid by defusing two high-intensity bombs in the limits of Hawaid police station on Sunday.

Akhtar Ali, an official of the Hawaid police, said a cleaner at the Hawaid Transport Stand called the police station around 9:30am, stating he had spotted a suspicious polythene bag planted near the bus stand’s wall.

After receiving the information, police rushed to the spot and vacated the area.

BDS official Wasal Khan told journalists 10 kilogrammes of explosives were used in the bomb which was successfully defused.

Ali, while talking to The Express Tribune, explained after defusing the bomb that Khan suspected unidentified militants had planted another device nearby. Hence, authorities cordoned off the area and BDS officials started searching vehicles in the stand.

Ali added a constable spotted a sack placed near two motorbikes, which were later found to have 50 kilogrammes of explosives connected to a remote control device.

The motorcycles were seized and further investigations are underway.
